Non-Fiction Response to "No Job? Get Lost!"

For my non-fiction response I read the article "No Job? Get Lost!". According to this article, "Norway's northernmost territory, Svalbard, has a police with just six officers and a single jail cell for an area twice the size of New Jersey." This may seem very careless but even this small police force is overkill. The last person to be locked up in the capital, Longyearbyen, was only there for two days and that was in 2013. The key to this crime-free community is that unemployment is illegal. "If you don't have a job, you can't live here."

I think that although this sounds awesome, places like Brooklyn and Manhattan can not even try to accomplish this. There are just too many people and too many variables. Unlike in Svalbard, people in New York City cannot leave their front doors unlocked or the keys to their cars in the ignition. The most serious crime in the past year was some scientists who did not pick up their trash after doing research in the wilderness. This is so different from New York. Even though Svalbard is big, it obviously has less people living there, while there are millions of people living in New York. IN Svalbard there is so few human villains, that the main predators are polar bears.

I really wish there was something that could help my city like this. There are shootings very often as well as burglaries and illegal drug use. Knowing that it is possible to stop all of this (even though the chances are still very slim) makes me feel a little disappointed with the people in charge. These problems are what they should be working on, trying to make cities everywhere a safer place. According to the article, nearly everyone in Svalbard has a gun yet they all know when and how to use it.
